Chapter Vote: South Central + Inglewood Branch Petition
|
On Sunday, 8/23 our chapter came together to debate a member petition that was submitted to establish a South Central & Inglewood branch of DSA-LA. This branch would be in addition to our four other branches: Westside, Central, San Fernando Valley, and Eastside & San Gabriel Valley. A ballot was emailed out Sunday night to all members in good standing to vote on whether to establish the branch (you can check your membership status here). The ballot will remain open until next Sunday, 8/30 at midnight. If you believe you should have received a ballot, but did not then please email [email protected]. Included with the ballot will be a form that allows you to add comments in favor of or in opposition to the member petition. Those comments will be featured here.

Annual Chapter Convention!
|
Saturday, September 12th @ 9:00am – 5:00pm PST
|
The DSA-LA 2020 Annual Convention is less than a month away now! Members from across the chapter have worked hard to qualify four proposed Chapter Resolutions and five proposed amendments to the DSA-LA Bylaws. Each of these nine proposals will be considered as main motions at the Convention, on September 12th. In preparation for the event, please review the information below:
- The Steering Committee has formalized a process for suggesting amendments to proposed items. The Steering Committee will coordinate amendments between members and authors, agendizing those that are not received as friendly by main authors for discussion at the Convention. All amendments for proposed items must be submitted through this form. Please note that amendments should be submitted by September 5th in order to be agendized.
- As per the Bylaws, at most three of the four proposed Chapter Resolutions can be adopted by the Convention. Chapter Resolutions denote long-term, resource intensive proposals that the chapter’s various bodies should work to implement. The voting process for proposed chapter resolutions is as follows:
- A proposed Chapter Resolution must receive a two-thirds supermajority of votes at the Annual Convention in order to be adopted. Up to 3 Chapter Resolutions will be adopted at the Annual Convention. Fewer Chapter Resolutions may be adopted, but in the occasion that more than 3 proposed Chapter Resolutions receive a two-thirds supermajority vote, there will be a second round of runoff voting to determine the top three Chapter Resolutions. In the event of a runoff vote, each member will vote for up to three of the Chapter Resolutions which have been approved by a two-thirds supermajority—the three Chapter Resolutions which receive the most votes will then be adopted.
- Each of the proposed bylaws amendments must receive a two-thirds supermajority vote in favor of adoption in order to amend the Chapter Bylaws.
