We just got some breaking news out of Georgia, John.
Just before the special legislative session began, Republicans pulled the plug on a plan to pass new gerrymanders.
You want to know why? This headline from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution puts it well:

That’s right. Georgia Republicans saw the results from Tuesday’s primary and the enthusiasm on the ground from THIS MOVEMENT — and they made the calculation that passing extreme gerrymanders right now could hurt them at the polls this fall.
They know we are here to hold them accountable, now, in the fall, and beyond. Chip in today to fuel our fight and help stop future attempts to gerrymander states like Georgia. [[link removed]]
But let’s be clear here – this is not the end of this fight.
Republicans know that their window to pass new maps could expire if they lose the governorship in November. Don’t think for a minute that they’re fully abandoning their dream plans to gerrymander — they’re simply hitting pause. My best guess is Gov. Kemp is hoping to sneak through a redraw immediately after the fall election.
We’ll be ready for it. Democrats across the country are fired up to ensure that Republicans can’t rig their way into permanent majorities.
Moments like this — when democracy is in desperate need of fierce champions — are why President Obama and A.G. Holder founded the NDR PAC. We have a robust strategy to counter the damage Republicans have already done, while combating future attempts to manipulate maps.
I’m asking you to make a donation and invest in a multi-front, multi-state strategy to defeat Trump’s gerrymandering scheme and preserve our democracy. [[link removed]]
