Jack,

Becky here, Fran's campaign manager. I don't usually write these emails
myself, but I wanted to share something with you.

We're just over halfway through Pride Month, and the Supreme Court could
hand down rulings on trans rights any day now. A few weeks ago, a message
came into the campaign from a man named Robert. He told us he likes Fran's
platform and everything she stands for.

But he also said he was worried that standing up for trans people might
cost Democrats too many votes. That it's "all too new," that not enough is
known, and maybe trans issues could be a holdup.

He said he’s never sent an email like this before. But he ended with this:
"I believe we are all created equal. I want change badly. This country
needs it tremendously."

I could tell he was wrestling with something real. So I wrote back — not
as a campaign manager, but as a mom. Here's what I said:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Robert,

My son came out as trans to our family in 2014. I'll be the first to admit
I made mistakes. I never hesitated to love and support him — but I was
deeply afraid for his safety.

After Trump was elected the first time, that fear grew. He wasn't just
under physical threat, but a constant emotional onslaught from people's
ill-informed attacks. Even after he left for college, I texted him every
morning just to make sure he was still alive. It was one of the scariest
times of my life as a parent.

But the more he became himself, the better we all felt. He grew confident
in who he is. He bought a house, found a job he loves, made great friends.
And a lot of people came to understand what I already knew — that trans
folks are tremendously normal, even boring. They just want to live their
lives.

We've now entered a second wave, much more hostile than the first. After
the relief we'd felt, it's especially harsh. And I'm afraid again.

When politicians like Gavin Newsom choose to sacrifice trans people to win
over a few voters, here's what I hear: that they'll sacrifice anyone who
becomes inconvenient. Racial minorities. People with disabilities.
Immigrants. The poor. Our elders. Whoever is in the way.

When Fran stands up for trans people, I know she'll fight for everyone —
not just when it's easy or popular, but always. That's why I chose to work
for this campaign. And it's why I'm proud to call her a friend.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's the kind of leader Wisconsin deserves. Whatever battle you're
fighting, the way Fran stands up for trans people is the way she'll stand
up for you.

supporting our campaign with a contribution today.

Thank you for being part of this.
