So nice, they used it twice

Hey John,

We were absolutely furious by this recent headline from LGBTQ Nation:

GOP platform will call for ban on same-sex marriage & transgender military members

Co-written by a hate group leader, the recycled platform also supports "ex-gay" conversion therapy and making it legal for businesses to discriminate against LGBTQ people.

In 2016, Tony Perkins, president of the anti-LGBTQ hate group Family Research Council, BRAGGED about writing anti-LGBTQ and anti-choice language into the Republican Party’s platform. And what’s worse? This year, they didn’t even bother to update their platform despite it sparking outrage last time! The party’s only platform will “reassert the Party’s strong support for President Donald Trump and his Administration” and “any motion to amend the 2016 Platform or to adopt a new platform, including any motion to suspend the procedures that will allow doing so, will be ruled out of order.”

Even if LGBTQ Republicans or their allies wanted to remove the terrible language or horrific policies, they're blocked from doing so. And as a former executive director of Log Cabin Republicans said, the decision to keep the old platform effectively keeps “one of the worst platforms in terms of LGBT issues.”

In the year 2020, bigots are still trying to strip back every right that LGBTQ people have gained. Our candidates, however, are fighting tooth and nail to make sure this terrible platform never becomes law. LGBTQ candidates are standing up to Trump and Pence, defending equality and ensuring we have a more equal future. Donate today to stand with them!

Here’s why this matters more than ever: since this platform was first approved and Donald Trump was sworn in, the Trump Administration – led by dedicated homophobe Mike Pence – has attacked trans servicemembers, rolled back access to healthcare, mocked trans children and so much more. Bigoted state legislators followed their lead and launched a massive wave of anti-LGBTQ legislation in America’s state governments. And instead of fighting back, they’re standing with the policies 100%!

This platform is terrible for LGBTQ Americans and terrible for equality. We must elect a new wave of LGBTQ candidates who will stand against bigotry in all forms. That way, regardless of this platform, we can prevent anti-LGBTQ policies and legislation at every level of government. Donate today!
