Hi John,

Right now, I'm in Bonn, Germany, where governments are supposed to make
progress on climate action ahead of the main UN Climate Talks later this
year in Türkiye.

Here's what I can tell you from the inside: the fossil fuel industry
didn't get the memo that they're the problem.

Finally, coal, oil and gas are a big part of the discussion and a roadmap
to transition away from them is being prepared. This is a crucial
political step. But Russia and other fossil-fuel-dependent states and
fossil fuel lobbyists want it buried.

[ [link removed] ]We need to ramp up the pressure to make sure they don’t succeed. And
that’s where you can help. Will you sign the global petition to end fossil
fuels forever? And then share it widely now?

This week, world governments should be moving forward with a real plan to
phase out coal, oil and gas and support the communities already bearing
the worst impacts. But instead of making real progress, they're holding
dialogues, workshops and consultations. All we’re seeing is more talking
about the talking.

Negotiators from small island states have been holding the line against
some of the most powerful interests here. And civil society is showing up,
day after day, to insist on a faster end to fossil fuels because we know
the alternative is unthinkable.

We need a phase out that works for everyone, including scaled-up
international funding, a tax on fossil fuel profits, and national roadmaps
that hold governments accountable.^1 Over 80 countries are already
supporting the process. But too many are still dragging their feet.

The fossil fuel industry has spent decades telling us this transition is
too hard, too expensive, too complicated. The truth is, it's too
profitable - for them. Not for us.

We're here in Bonn to make sure governments hear a different story. But we
need the numbers to back us up.

In solidarity,

Rukiya Khamis
