Today at 6 p.m.: Community Unity and Accountability
Last night police in Kenosha shot yet another black man several times in the back. The horrific video is all over social media and deserves a content warning. This is yet another example of an unconscionable and totally unnecessary use of force by law enforcement against people of color. Our thoughts are with the victim, who as of Sunday night had survived and was fighting for his life.
We want to peacefully speak truth to power, demand transparency, accountability, and justice, and let our elected officials know that violence in our communities, brought by those sworn to protect and those seeking to cause harm to our communities, is unacceptable.
On Monday, August 24, at 6 p.m., we will gather at Civic Park and march to the Municipal Building (City Hall), 900 57th St., Kenosha. The next Common Council meeting is more than a week away, but city leaders need to know our community is hurting and on edge.
This is a peaceful protest and will conclude at 7 p.m. in the field to the north of the Municipal building. Read more here
