Happy Monday!!
First, let us extend congratulations to US Rep. Bill Posey for his win on Primary
Day, and to Circuit Judge Victoria Griffin for her win as well. Those races were
neglectfully left off last Wednesday's report of races, and for that we apologize...
Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa!!
And now, on to this week's news...
The Democrats held their convention last week. Objectively, their program was long
on emotion and short on substance. There was no real mention of agenda items, and
the rioting and civil unrest ongoing in several major cities were ignored. Ordinarily,
after each convention, the nominated candidate gets what is known as a "bump," meaning
a boost in the polls. Joe Biden received no discernible bump, and may be the first
candidate in history to actually have lost ground during his own nominating convention.
Whether this is an effect of the COVID pandemic or of the Biden candidacy will come
into better focus following the Republican convention, after which we will see whether
Pres. Trump gets a bump effect from his convention. In any event, based on Trump's
background as a salesman and showman, the Republican convention is expected to be
more entertaining than the Democrats' convention was. The Democrats suffered from
extremely poor viewer ratings, which has been attributed to low entertainment value
combined with very little substance during their convention. The Republicans are
expected to have learned from the Democrats' poor performance and to put on a better
all-around production. We shall see....
And locally...
