DEI was supposedly banned at the University of North Carolina, thanks to the Board of Governors' directive.

Unfortunately, a policy is only as strong as the people responsible for enforcing it.

One University of North Carolina at Greensboro professor told our hidden-camera investigators that while the language may be changing, the message from leadership is clear: keep the content.

“The university chancellor and provost are very supportive of trying to keep as much of what would be considered DEI- based equity, inclusion stuff in.”

Meet Ariane Cox, a senior lecturer for Sociology, Criminology, and Justice at UNC Greensboro:

During our conversation, Cox explained that, despite the directive, her course content was the same.

“Like I said, I’ve made no changes, and I’m teaching mainly intro right now. That’s the messages we’re getting from administration and our department.”

These administrators, who are expected to uphold the directive from the Board of Governors, are the same ones who are encouraging their staff to keep going.

University officials can rename programs, reorganize departments, and change terminology, but they cannot hide what they are willing to admit when they believe nobody is listening.
