The Scalise Capitol Report

Touring our Flood Control Systems
Earlier this week, I brought together officials from the Army Corps of Engineers, Coast Guard, and local levee districts for a flyover tour of Southeast Louisiana's hurricane protection and flood control systems, including the Morganza to the Gulf flood protection system in Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes. It was important for me to show these federal officials how communities have stepped up to build their own levees, and to discuss the continued need for federal investment in this project and others in Southeast Louisiana. We know our flood protection systems are critical because they protect families and small businesses, and they are also an important investment for the whole country because they protect vital energy, maritime and trade resources and prevent billions of dollars in storm damages.

Colonel Stephen Murphy, Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New Orleans District, Rear Admiral John Nadeau, Commander of the Eighth Coast Guard District, and Dwayne Bourgeois, Executive Director of the North Lafourche Conservation, Levee and Drainage District, joined me for this flyover tour.

Congratulations to the Little League World Series Champions
Congratulations to our very own Eastbank All-Stars from River Ridge on becoming the Little League World Series Champions! After the team clinched the title, I spoke with President Trump and shared the news that the U.S. had won the Little League World Series and the team would love an invitation to the White House. The President immediately told me he would love to celebrate the players at the White House, a well-deserved honor for these young players. I'm sure we'll all be celebrating this historic team for years to come.

Visiting the Terrebonne Churches United Good Samaritan Food Bank
This week, I had the opportunity to tour the Terrebonne Churches United Good Samaritan Food Bank in Houma. This food bank has been serving the community for more than 30 years. It has been a strong resource for families needing assistance through hurricanes or tough times. We are all thankful for the generous and hardworking volunteers at the food bank for their work to feed hundreds in the community.
