John,
I don’t usually write emails this long. This one needs it.
I want to show you a timeline of what I’ve been doing, what’s at stake, and why everything I’ve been fighting for in Washington connects directly to what we’re building right here in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Because we have 24 hours left in the PA Rising Tide Fund, and I want you to know exactly what you’re funding. [[link removed]]
📋 THIS YEAR IN WASHINGTON
January: The new session starts, and I take my seats on the House Judiciary and Rules Committees. Two of the most consequential assignments in Congress, and not ones I take lightly. Judiciary oversees the DOJ, DHS, FBI, and the courts. Rules controls what actually comes to the floor for a vote. Together, they’re where accountability either happens or doesn’t.
February: DHS Secretary Kristi Noem comes before the Judiciary Committee. I press her on ICE abuses, on deaths in federal custody, on DHS agents assaulting and arresting people who dare to speak out, on the systematic use of government power to silence dissent. She deflects. I keep pressing. The exchange makes national headlines. Noem is eventually pushed out of her cabinet position. That’s the accountability I’m after.
March: Pam Bondi comes before the Judiciary. I question her on DOJ overreach, on the administration’s deployment of federal resources against political opponents, and on what the rule of law actually means when the people enforcing it are compromised. She doesn’t have good answers. I make sure the record reflects that, and soon she’s ousted from her position too.
April: RFK Jr. The public health hearing. I bring twenty years as a public interest lawyer into that room, and I ask the questions that protect the people who can’t be in that room themselves. Parents of kids who depend on vaccine programs. Communities affected by environmental decisions being made by someone who doesn’t believe in science.
May: The VRA ruling drops. The Trump DOJ confirms it will use it to go after majority-minority voting districts. Pennsylvania is specifically named. I’m already on the phone with legal teams and state officials before the day is out.
🏢 THIS YEAR IN PENNSYLVANIA
While the fight continues in Washington, the team has been building here, too.
The community office hub we opened is the physical embodiment of what a coordinated Pennsylvania operation looks like. It’s a shared space where Democratic campaigns up and down the ballot can coordinate voter contact, share resources, train canvassers, and operate like the team we need to be to win.
Democracy Summer Fellows are in the building right now. Young people learning what real organizing looks like — not as an abstraction, but by doing it. They’re going to be knocking doors, making calls, and building the relationships that this campaign runs on.
We’re not just trying to win PA-05. We’re trying to flip the House. Those things are connected, and the work we do here this summer is the infrastructure that makes November possible.
I’ve been doing this long enough to know what it takes. And I know that what it takes right now is resources, early, before November, is already defined by outside money. The accountability work we do in DC and the work on the ground in PA continue to make the actual change. Please chip in before the 48-hour window closes >> [[link removed]]
Thank you, as always.
