Hey John -
We now officially have our Democratic ticket of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for 2020! Thank you to everyone who came out to our virtual DNC watch party and the VAYD phone banks this past week. We hope to see you at the March on Washington this coming Friday.
Check out our events and apply for one of our NEW paid AYD Field Organizer positions below!
AYD will be attending the New March on Washington on Friday, August 28th! We will be meeting in Memorial Circle on the Arlington side of the Memorial Bridge at 7 am ahead of the beginning of the program and will walk as a group over to meet up with the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Young Democrats of America (DC/MD/VA/PA/DE/NJ).
The 1963 March on Washington will be commemorated this year on August 28, 2020. After months of protesting the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others, the National Action Network will be leading a march to the National Mall. Young Democrats are invited to march together on the day of the march. On August 27th, there will be a small meet and greet for Young Dems to connect. PLEASE NOTE: All CDC guidelines will be followed and we will be in accordance with current DC law which includes but is not limited to social distancing, mandatory masks, etc.
FAQ provided by the organizers of the march:
Q: Can we bring flags and banners?
A: Flags are allowed, but not on a pole. Posters and signs are allowed, but not with wooden signposts. Custom Protest t-shirts are encouraged and available here: https://teespring.com/stores/march-on-washington-2
Q: What should I wear?
A: Please plan accordingly and dress for the weather. Especially if the temperatures are higher than normal, standing outside for hours at a time may impact you. Custom protest t-shirts are available here: https://teespring.com/stores/march-on-washington-2
Q: Can I bring folding chairs so that we can take rest?
A: Folding chairs are not permitted. If there are specific medical needs that you cannot have met with regular accommodations please contact [email protected]
Q: Will there be a modified route for people with disabilities or limited mobility?
A: There will be a modified route for the march. We ask that people assess their own ability to march and make needed arrangements to participate.
Q: What if I get arrested?
A: Please note that we are working with local and federal law enforcement and do not intend to engage in any civil disobedience. We expect all marches to abide by all laws and any instruction of law enforcement. Finally, we are planning a peaceful demonstration and are training marshals in de-escalation tactics and ask that all marches remain peaceful.

Virginia Young Democrats are joining Clean Energy for Biden DMV for a Phone Bank for Biden-Harris 2020 with VA Rep Don Beyer on Saturday, August 29th from 11am - 1pm!
Clean Energy for Biden (CE4B) DMV is excited to host a community phone bank with CE4B members and volunteers from around the region, and Northern Virginia's own Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA-8)!
Rep. Beyer has been a tireless leader on clean energy issues and addressing the climate crisis during his time in Congress. We'll gather on Zoom where he'll kick us off with some of his hopes for a Biden administration on these critical issues, and will take some questions.
Then we'll turn to a quick training on phone banking, and get to making some calls! For this phone bank, we'll be focusing on making calls into Virginia. Look forward to seeing everyone online!
For any questions, please contact VAYD Campaign Director Matt Royer at [email protected]
We will be holding our general body meeting on Tuesday, September 1st at 7 pm via Zoom to hold votes on business items for the Arlington Young Democrats.
We will be voting on a proposed amendment to the AYD Constitution and outstanding resolutions as recommended by the AYD Executive Board.
If you have any issues or concerns, please reach out to AYD Outreach Director Sacha Brenac at [email protected] or AYD President Dan Matthews at [email protected].
This is the most important election of our lifetime and AYD is doing everything we can to ensure that we elect Democrats from the school board to the state house to the White House!
We’re working as hard as we can but we still need your help. With that in mind, we’re looking for two activists who want to take the next step and join our team as paid AYD Field Organizers. These will be independent positions expected to take on responsibilities related to volunteer outreach and engagement as well as direct voter contact.
If you would like to apply for this position, or have any questions, email AYD President Dan Matthews at [email protected] with your resume and why would you be a good fit by Friday, August 28th.
