I just looked at the progress report from our fundraising team on this
our pre-election Summer Fundraising Campaign.

I'll be honest. I'm worried.

We're almost halfway through our Summer Fundraising Campaign, and we're
only 35% of the way to our goal. Meanwhile, we've seen an uptick the
number of people canceling their monthly recurring
donations--contributions that we count on for future planning as a
foundation of support.

Look, we understand completely that we're living through an
unprecedented economic crisis. With 50 million Americans unemployed and
the worst economy since the 1940s, we know that many of you who believe
just as deeply in nonprofit journalism as we do simply aren't able to
donate or give as much at this time.

But this is our very last fundraising campaign before we make final
decisions about allocating resources for the November election.

If we fall short now, we will have to look at cost-cutting leading up to
the most dangerous presidential election we've ever seen, with Donald
Trump using the full power of his office to suppress the vote, sabotage
the Postal Service, and set the stage for refusing to leave office if he
loses in November.

Donate now to help reach our Summer Fundraising Campaign goal of $80,000
by September 1 and make sure our team of political reporters have all
the resources and backing they need to watchdog everything Trump does to
undermine our democracy.
