Amid the ongoing global pandemic, the United States Postal Service has faced unprecedented challenges. The ongoing effort by the Trump administration to sabotage the USPS has endangered the delivery of medicine for veterans, checks for workers, Social Security checks for seniors, packages for small businesses and ballots from voters.
Don't just take it from me. These charts are from the USPS Service Performance Measurement briefing that proves since the Post Office began the initiatives from the Postmaster General DeJoy, performance has decreased in mail processing and delivery.
Many of you have written to me asking Congress to take action. And we did.
I was pleased to chair part of yesterday's vote as my Democratic colleagues and I passed the Delivering for America Act, which would prohibit the Trump administration and Postmaster General DeJoy from implementing any changes to Postal Service operations that impede service, like the removal of mail sorting machines and mailboxes we've seen across the country, and reverse any previous changes causing mail delays.
Like our flag, the USPS logo is red, white and blue. This should not be a partisan issue.
The Senate needs to immediately take up this bill to also declare any attempt to undermine the Postal Service will not be tolerated. Thank you for raising your voice alongside mine as we continue to fight to protect this essential service.
