We are going to get through the coronavirus outbreak together. We are closely monitoring the situation and its effects on the people of Illinois and our nation as we work together to keep our families and communities safe.
John, In the middle of a global pandemic, voting by mail is critical for our neighbors and communities. But Donald Trump and Republicans across our country know they can’t win a fair election this year — and they’re trying to destroy the Post Office to keep our voices from being heard. Right here in Chicago, our postal workers are feeling the impact of Trump’s actions. Sorting machines at the Main Post Office and O’Hare Airport have been removed. Overtime pay has been eliminated at a time when workers are already struggling to support their families, and postal workers are getting sick without the paid leave and PPE they need. Over 250,000 Chicagoans have applied to vote-by-mail this year so far — with even more expected to apply before the election. These are our friends, our neighbors, and members of our communities. Donald Trump and his administration sabotaging vote-by-mail is an attempt to take away our power and silence our right to vote. We can’t wait until November to take action. Our communities and postal workers are already feeling the effect of Louis DeJoy’s mismanagement and Donald Trump’s sabotage. It’s time for new, accountable leadership at the Post Office. ¡Sí se puede! Team Chuy |
