BPC in the News

Congress's inability to pass the next round of recovery legislation opened the door for President Trump to take executive action on the matter. Former Senate Majority Leaders Tom Daschle and Trent Lott, who both served on BPC's Commission on Political Reform, urged Congress to reassert its responsibility to establish a policy framework that guides our nation. Elsewhere, BPC's John Fortier and Dr. Anand Parekh answered questions about voting in the 2020 election and schools reopening, respectively.

BPC's Latest Work

As we near the centennial of the 19th Amendment becoming law on August 26, 1920, campus communities across the country are planning a slate of events and celebrations in honor of the historic struggle for women’s voting rights. For college students returning to remote or partially remote campuses during this pandemic, the centennial celebrations offer insights about the free expression culture they are likely to grapple with this year.

Each month, BPC's Economic Policy Project analyzes the federal government's budget deficit and tracks the findings. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the federal government ran a deficit of $61 billion in July and although this July’s deficit was actually smaller than last July’s $120 billion deficit, the change does not represent an improved fiscal condition but a mere timing shift.
