John,
Right now, we’re seeing schools across Georgia send students back into classrooms. And while we all wish life could go back to normal, the reality is that this virus continues to spread uncontrolled — and sending our kids back into school classrooms places them at risk.
Georgia now leads the nation in the rate of new infections, and schools are already closing down again as infections with COVID-19 spread. This shows that the plans to reopen were hasty, ill-conceived, and done with no thought to what science and the medical community were saying.
Trump’s lies about the virus — part of the 20,000 that he’s told the American people since taking office — have convinced many people that reopening schools in such a hasty manner is safe. The facts are that students and young people are NOT immune to the virus, no matter what Trump says — and they’re spreading the virus to their teachers, parents, and guardians, any other staff working at the school, and anybody they come in contact with.
We have to be smart, patient, and follow facts before we rush to open up. Some schools are offering options like hybrid models, where half the students are present and the other half attend school virtually.
While we are in an uncertain time right now, we need steady leaders who will listen to experts, follow the science, and place our interests ahead of partisan political interests.
As the Congressman for Georgia’s 4th congressional district, Hank wants all of his constituents to be safe and healthy throughout this crisis and beyond. We need to keep Hank in Congress to stand up to the irresponsible leadership that’s allowing this to happen — so if you can, could you contribute $5, $10, or anything you can to help send Hank back to Congress this November?
Thanks for your help and stay safe,
— Team Hank |
