Team – I wanted to thank you all personally for what you have done to speak up and support the United States Postal Service. As you may know, I have been hard at work saving the USPS from Trump’s reckless, partisan destruction. Earlier in the week, I stood with my Brooklyn community and demanded Postmaster Louis DeJoy resign immediately. And then I headed straight to Washington to help pass the Deliver for America Act through the House. This critical piece of legislation prohibits the USPS from changing operations or levels of service from those that were in effect at the start of 2020. It prohibits post office closures, cuts to overtime pay, and service changes that would delay mail delivery. I encourage my colleagues in the Senate to pass this bill swiftly.
We all saw what happened in New York during our primary, which relied heavily on mail-in ballots. Mail systems were overwhelmed, voters did not receive their ballots in a timely fashion, and results were delayed. Can you imagine what Trump will try to do in November if we cannot call a winner shortly after November 3rd? That is why I am working so hard to ensure our mail-in voting processes are as smooth as possible heading into the most important election of our lifetimes. But Trump is actively sabotaging the USPS — the critical infrastructure we will rely on to cast our vote safely and securely during a pandemic. I’ve said it time and time again this week: Don’t mess with the USPS! — Yvette
