Scientists Concerned Latest Gene Editing of Human Embryos Could “Open the Floodgates”

While we’re editing DNA, what feature would you like to add to yourself? I’m thinking some sort of indicator that would show when I’m losing interest in a conversation

Gen X just turned 60. They’re still tapping parents for cash

That seems problematic. If you’re nearing retirement age, you probably shouldn’t be hitting up your parents for cash

Also Worth A Look…

  • Why Some People Always Give And Never Receive, According To Science - Apparently people only expect generosity to be a two-way street in equal relationships like friends, co-workers, etc. If you’re in a hierarchical relationship, once you’ve established yourself as a “Giver” in your relationship, you’re basically going to be the “Giver” forever, regardless of where you might rank in that relationship

  • Aliens Might Exist, But These 3 Reasons Explain Why They’re Not Visiting Us - “Might” isn’t exactly the right word. Statistically speaking, it’s highly unlikely aliens don’t exist somewhere out there. As for why they haven’t stopped by to say hello, they point to the obvious reasons: the immense distance, the energy and time involved in interstellar travel and also Earth might not be an obvious place to search for life if you’re an alien with a radically different idea of what’s needed for life to evolve on a planet. I still stand by my theory that the probably have visited, but decided they want nothing to do with this mess. I respect their decision

  • Humans will soon be able to spend longer in space - A US company is developing an orbital habitat with artificial gravity. Unlike Star Trek and other sci-fi where it’s generated by some sort of flux capacitor, it would be from rotating the spacecraft. That’s been on the drawing board for a while now and would certainly eliminate a lot of potential problems

  • The Brain May Not Need Full Sleep To Recover, New Research Finds - Good, because I’ve learned that anyone who has kids or even pets is pretty much saying goodbye to being well-rested

  • A 7-Year-Old Scaled El Cap. Climbers Aren’t Thrilled - Basically, he scaled El Capitan… along with a bunch of helpers who did most of the work for him

  • It Turns Out No One Wants a $500K T-Rex Leather Bag - Part of the problem might be the fact that the “leather” is made from coaxing collagen cells to create something skin-like. While that’s cool, I’m not sure it’s realistic to think it’s $500k-level cool

  • Marilyn Monroe impersonators break world record in California - It doesn’t seem like it would be all that challenging to be a Marilyn Monroe impersonator. Just wear a blonde wig and stand over a subway grate

  • New UFO files describe spinning discs, glowing orbs and one object shaped like a potato - If the Idaho chamber of commerce isn’t all over the last one, what are they even doing?

  • Police use mascot disguises to target ‘die-hard football fan’ suspected of drug trafficking - Reminds me of the time famed opera singer/umpire Enrico Pallazzo thwarted an assassination attempt on Queen Elizabeth II by Reggie Jackson

  • Gaming PC saves owner from bullet fired by neighbor’s dog - There’s a whole lot going on in that story
