Trump-appointed Postmaster General Louis DeJoy tried to paint a positive picture for senators at a hearing Friday about the cuts he's made to the Postal Service. But CNN reports they have internal documents showing the Postal Service planned to make drastic policy changes about handling election mail that would likely have delayed ballots.
Louis DeJoy is a Trump ally and Republican mega-donor with major conflicts of interest -- he owns at least a $30 million stake in a USPS contractor and as much as $100,000 in Amazon stock options.
Elizabeth Warren says, "We’re already feeling the USPS delays. Americans are right to be worried about Postmaster General Louis DeJoy’s empty promises. Congress and the US Postal Service Board of Governors must reverse this damage that threatens our democracy."
In the midst of the global pandemic and economic crisis, Americans across the country are facing MAJOR, INTENTIONAL mail delays because Trump is attacking the Post Office in order to suppress our votes and, eventually, privatize the Post Office. DeJoy's actions are purposeful -- to exasperate Trump’s war on voting by mail.
Extreme weather, extreme road conditions, extreme public health crises and extreme underfunding haven't stopped the U.S. Postal Service. Trump's desperate, dictatorial attempts to stay in power even if the people don't want him must not be allowed to stop the Postal Service either.
Thanks for being a bold progressive.
