The funding will support law enforcement, first responders, and emergency management agencies across the state, including more than $1.8 million for Nassau and Suffolk Counties. New York City will also receive $92.2 million through the Urban Area Security Initiative to support critical anti-terrorism programs. “As we near the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks, New York remains the top terror target in the world. DHS's counterterrorism and preparedness grants are essential to protecting Long Islanders from evolving threats and preparing for the future. I was proud to lead the effort to secure these critical resources for New York communities. As Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security and as a congressman representing a district forever marked by 9/11, I appreciate DHS’s responsiveness in getting our state and local partners the tools they need to prevent acts of terror and keep our communities safe,” said Andrew. ANDREW IN THE NEWS Fully Funding the Department of Homeland Security This week, Congress passed legislation to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security. “Today, Republicans fulfilled our responsibility to fully fund the Department of Homeland Security. We delivered the resources needed to keep our borders secure, interdict illicit drugs such as fentanyl, and combat human trafficking and smuggling. Most importantly, we voted to support the dedicated men and women of DHS law enforcement who put their lives on the line every day to protect the homeland and keep the American people safe. I am proud that Republicans voted earlier this year to fund new transparency and accountability requirements for DHS. I look forward to President Trump’s signature and a return to our annual appropriations process,” said Andrew. As Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, Andrew continues to support policies that provide law enforcement and border security personnel with the tools they need to carry out their mission.
