Chris here, reaching out with immense thanks to the 7,326 of you who sent messages to Big Oil last week. You urged major oil companies not to bid on leases in the irreplaceable Arctic Refuge — and they didn’t. This is how we build power for people and our planet.
The Trump administration’s Arctic Refuge lease sale was a major flop, yielding only 1% of the revenue promised. The sale had only 2 bidders — no major oil companies — and one was the Alaska state-run corporation that stepped in due to lack of competition. Thanks to decades of resistance from the Gwich'in people and sustained pressure from supporters like you, the Arctic Refuge has remained free from oil and gas drilling and development.
But make no mistake: any oil and gas leasing in the Arctic Refuge has unacceptable risks. LCV will continue to mobilize supporters like you against threats in the Arctic Refuge and give you opportunities to speak out and take action, because nothing justifies selling off one of the last wild places on Earth.
Thank you for speaking out and for standing with LCV and with all the protectors of the Arctic Refuge — so that this irreplaceable wilderness continues to thrive for future generations.
With gratitude,
Chris Brooks
