Today is the last day of the Country First Annual Dash for Democracy and this topic is front and center these past few months. 

Across the country, partisan operatives & Donald Trump pressured conservative states to enact mid-decade redistricting not to better serve voters — but to rig the map, protect power, and lock in one-party rule.

In an ideal world, every state would use independent, nonpartisan commissions to draw congressional maps fairly and transparently. But we are not living in an ideal world.

What we’re living in is political trench warfare.

Here’s the reality: if one side redraws maps to secure political power while the other side refuses to respond, that’s not “taking the high road.” That’s surrendering the playing field and weakening democracy.

And this fight isn’t just about 2026 — it’s about 2028 and beyond.

Republican-led states are already exploring new redistricting efforts that could shape the political landscape for years to come. Blue States must be prepared to respond.

Hopefully, one day, redistricting in all states will be governed by non-partisan bodies, but If political leaders are going to play hardball with democracy, voters cannot afford to sit on the sidelines.

That’s why we’re asking you to take action today.
