Even the worst politicians in D.C. know one thing for certain: our national forests and wilderness areas are overwhelmingly popular. They know that if they openly introduce a bill to bulldoze our public lands, the voters will run them out of town.
So, guys like Pete Stauber have found a backdoor to get it done without being so obvious.
It's a procedural trick called the Congressional Review Act (CRA), and Stauber is using it as a blunt instrument to systematically dismantle our most cherished public lands and hand them over to corporate extraction lobbies.
It was through the CRA that Stauber was able to pass a bill opening the Boundary Waters up to a foreign mining conglomerate.
Our cleanest water and open land could be desecrated just so corporate executives, with whom Stauber is buddies, can make a buck.
It’s disgusting. I’m running for Congress because I am pissed off about it. I refuse to sit back and watch Pete Stauber treat northern Minnesota like a garage sale for his corporate donors and foreign mining conglomerates.
If we don't stop him, there will be nothing left. But I cannot build the grassroots machine needed to defeat his corporate PACs without you on my team.
