We've been saying all along that Donald Trump is engineering a slow-motion coup in order stay in power. For years, he's been coaching his supporters to reject any election result that doesn't make him the winner. He's installed a political crony as postmaster general to sabotage mail delivery during the biggest mail-in election in history.
Republican local election officials are pulling all the usual voter suppression tactics and taking advantage of the pandemic to test all new tricks. Even President Obama warned in his Democratic National Convention speech that Donald Trump will tear down the democracy to stay in power.
But the corporate media STILL hasn't learned how to hold this president accountable, and they're still falling for his distractions and lies.

The failures of the corporate media were on full display when Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced that he would suspend policy changes that were slowing down mail delivery until after the election.
In response, the corporate media breathlessly announced that the Postal Service was going to be O.K. and the election was saved!
It took less than a day for it to become clear that the media had been played--again--and that DeJoy wouldn't increase overtime hours, replace the sorting machines and mailboxes that had been removed, or do much else to actually reverse the policies he'd implemented. And now, to change the subject, Trump is floating bizarre QAnon conspiracy theories and recycling debunked accusations about "Obamagate" and Kamala Harris's eligibility to be president.
Common Dreams was launched as an antidote to the failed corporate media, which is so addicted to profits, clicks, and ratings that they can't be bothered to cover serious issues or fact-check sensationalist stories before running with them. Never has this mission been more important.
