Dear MoveOn member,
For once, we agree with Mitch McConnell. Yes, Mitch McConnell.
McConnell told Fox News this month that control of the Senate "could go
either way."^1 He said that there are several Senate races that are so
close that he would compare them to "a knife fight in an alley."^2
John, the candidates in those races need our help. Democrats
Sara Gideon in Maine, Jaime Harrison in South Carolina, and Steve Bullock
in Montana are locked in tight races to defeat three of the biggest Trump
enablers, and most vulnerable Republicans, in the Senate—Susan Collins,
Lindsey Graham, and Steve Daines, respectively—and, if they win, together
they could flip the Senate.

donation will be split between the Gideon, Harrison, and Bullock
campaigns.
If we defeat Donald Trump on November 3 but McConnell and the GOP maintain
control of the Senate, the prospects for a "better, fairer, stronger"
future that President Obama allowed us to dream about this week will come
to a grinding halt.^3
There will be no legislation to help Americans recover from the
coronavirus. No legislation to reform policing. No legislation to expand
health care. And no Supreme Court vacancies filled.
That's why flipping control of the Senate is just as important as electing
Joe Biden and Kamala Harris this fall.
And that's why billionaire GOP donors are pouring money into these three
races as they scramble to hold on to their Senate majority—their
"backstop."^4
[ [link removed] ]On the eve of the Republican National Convention, will you chip in
$3 to help elect Democrats Sara Gideon, Jaime Harrison, and
Steve Bullock and flip the Senate? 100% of your donation will be split
between these three candidates.
Sara Gideon in Maine is the House speaker and built a reputation for
standing up to Maine's own Trump-like former governor, Paul LePage—and
winning.^5 Gideon would be the first person of color ever elected to
Congress from Maine.^6
Jaime Harrison in South Carolina overcame grinding poverty to graduate
from Yale and Georgetown Law and become the first Black chair of the South
Carolina Democratic Party.^7 And he's now tied—yes, tied!—in the polls
with Lindsey Graham.^8
And Steve Bullock in Montana is running to defeat right-wing Republican
Steve Daines, who has worked "tirelessly to repeal Obamacare," defends
Trump's tear-gassing of Black Lives Matter protesters, and applauds
Trump's "bold" leadership on the coronavirus pandemic.^9,10,11 Meanwhile,
Bullock expanded Medicaid coverage in the state and has fought to protect
public lands and end the corrupting influence of money in politics.^12,13
This is our chance, and we have power. We can and must defeat Trump and
flip the Senate. But it's going to take each and every one of us doing our
part.
