UN News: 'Women and girls cannot wait: Lebanon's crisis is putting lives at risk

1 in 4 women and girls in Lebanon are displaced by ongoing violence in the Middle East.

Among them are 13,500 pregnant women, with 1,500 expected to give birth in the next 30 days.

Please, will you rush a gift to deliver lifesaving care, such as midwives, medical supplies, and emergency support, in Lebanon and conflict zones around the world?

"I was sitting for so long that my body ached. I was afraid I might give birth on the road without any medical help. Every minute felt endless. I kept touching my belly, praying my baby would stay safe," Rima shared with our team.

She was forced to flee her home in southern Lebanon while seven months pregnant due to intense bombing. It took her 16 hours before she finally found safety.

Women like Rima are arriving at crowded shelters that lack proper bedding, clean bathrooms, and private spaces for breastfeeding and recovery from birth. The conditions put pregnant women and new mothers at serious risk of infection and sexual violence.

And the medical care they desperately need is disappearing.

Since the conflict began on March 2, over 149 healthcare facilities have been attacked—including three last week alone. Many are fully closed, and those still operating are working far beyond their capacity.

Will you make a gift today to deliver essential support, including medicines for childbirth and personal care items such as blankets, diapers, and soap, to pregnant women and new mothers in need?

Thanks to supporters like you, our teams are on the ground. We are supporting 55 hospitals, have deployed 9 mobile health teams to reach displaced women and girls, and operate 11 Safe Spaces where women can escape overcrowded shelters and find privacy, mental health support, and rest.

“The staff were kind and supportive,” said Sara, six months pregnant, after she visited a UNFPA mobile health clinic. "It helped me feel a little more secure, but the fear doesn't go away. I want my baby to be born into peace."

In conflict zones, the difference between life and death for a mother and her newborn can be as simple as a medication, a safe place to give birth, and someone who cares. Will you send a gift today to deliver essential care to mothers and newborns in conflict zones around the world?
