# [#] June is Gun Violence Prevention Month, a time to honor the victims and survivors of gun violence and recommit ourselves to action.
The scale of gun violence in this country is devastating. And it is not just happening somewhere else. Families here in San Diego have felt it, too.
No parent should have to worry that their child will not come home from school, a movie theater, a place of worship, or a neighborhood gathering. And it is unacceptable that gun violence is the number one cause of death for children and teens in America.
That is why gun safety has long been one of my top priorities in Congress.
I have supported and introduced commonsense legislation to prevent gun violence, including the STANDUP Act to help schools identify and support at-risk students, the Assault Weapons Ban, and the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
I am proud that this work has earned me the distinction of being named a Gun Sense Candidate by Moms Demand Action.
But this fight is bigger than one bill, one month, or one election. The NRA and the lawmakers they support are still working to block even the most basic gun safety measures.
Preventing gun violence takes work at every level of government, from Congress to city councils and school boards.
And the fight for gun safety does not end when June does. It is directly tied to who we elect in November.
Will you chip in $5 or whatever you can today to support candidates who will keep fighting for commonsense gun safety? [[link removed]]
