Hi John,

Last month was our moment to highlight the power of affordable housing and the progress we’re making for Bay Area communities. From breaking ground on the construction of new homes to sharing our success stories, Affordable Housing Month 2026 showcased the momentum NPH members are driving across the region — together. 

🏘️ NPH members opened or broke ground on more than 1,000 new affordable homes in the Bay Area in May alone. Every groundbreaking and ribbon-cutting represents stronger neighborhoods, jobs, and communities — one person, and one family, at a time.

📣 Several local jurisdictions formally acknowledged May as Affordable Housing Month. Shoutout to the City of Martinez, City of Oakland, City of Sunnyvale, City of Redwood City, and City of Santa Clara for underscoring their commitment to expanding housing opportunities for residents at all income levels.

🤝 Our partners told a variety of success stories that prove real-world impact. For example, check out this post from SV@Home lifting up one determined advocate’s role in getting a Cupertino affordable housing project off the ground.

📰 We helped local media cover affordable housing solutions. We engaged reporters in delivering our sector’s good news to potential supporters, including this Mountain View Voice article that lifts up the conversion of a Mountain View parking lot to a 120-unit apartment building, developed by Alta Housing.

👥 Together, we strengthened the public conversation around affordable housing. NPH is proud to continue building on this work with our members as we tell the collective impact of affordable housing, translating complex housing issues into compelling, newsworthy stories that build public support for the critical work we all do. We’ll build on this work and these conversations through our Strategic Communications Council, and you’re invited to join us!

Affordable Housing Month may be over, but this story is just the beginning. Thank you to every organization, advocate, resident, and partner who amplified the powerful message of community, power, and progress this May. The future of the Bay Area is up to us!
