Everyone has felt stuck at some point in their life. For reasons beyond our control, we were unable to get from point A to point B. Unable to cross a bridge from where we are to where we want to be. For ourselves and our families.
You probably agree – it’s not a good feeling.
Too many people are trying to do the same thing now. Every day. Build a bridge from being homeless to being housed. Unfortunately, they get stuck in a system that is typically overburdened, overwhelmed, underfunded, and greatly misunderstood. And so that bridge quickly becomes uncrossable.
** There are too many pathways into homelessness - and not enough pathways out.

** Why?

Across communities, homeless programs do not currently have enough shelter, housing, and services to meet demands. No community can offer enough permanent housing to serve everyone experiencing homelessness. Recent estimates reveal that homeless response systems across the U.S. only had enough units to house 16 percent of families currently staying in shelters. In addition, only 35 affordable and available rental homes exist for every 100 extremely low-income households.
A thriving community offers enough available and affordable housing to meet the needs of its neighbors. By maintaining a homeless response system that is sufficiently funded, we can help people cross the bridge from homelessness to housing.
