John, I’ll be honest, the latest Medicaid news isn't good. I want to fill you in on what was announced just last week and what it could mean for millions of people.
The Trump administration’s newly proposed rule to guide states in their roll out of Medicaid work requirements put care recipients, especially disabled care recipients, in a dangerous catch-22 by forcing them to choose between their income and their care. We can’t let this happen.

Here’s why I’m so concerned about this, John:
* The new rules tie exemptions to whether a person can prove they work at least 80 hours a month. If someone can’t meet the proposed 80-hour work requirements, they may lose their health care, unless they say the can’t work, going further than the law requires. .
* Health policy analysts predict nationwide Medicaid work requirements will cause health coverage losses for more than 5 million people by 2034.
* Ultimately, the proposal will force millions to choose between their job and health care. For many disabled people this creates a catch-22: either work to make ends meet and risk losing your Medicaid, or stop working altogether to prove you qualify for the exemption.
* The disability community has spent generations proving that independence and employment go together. We cannot allow a proposal like this to undo that progress.
And let’s be clear – this is all happening so that Congress can account for over a TRILLION dollars in cuts to Medicaid, all to pay for tax breaks to billionaires. These cuts come at the expense of people who rely on Medicaid to get health care, remain in their homes, maintain their independence, and care for their loved ones.
That’s why we’re doing everything we can to educate caregivers and care recipients, and mobilize all care advocates into taking action. Are you with us? Click here to pledge to join the fight against this dangerous policy. [[link removed]]
When you pledge to join, you’re agreeing to take action via public comment and you’ll also be the first to know about a town hall we’ll be holding later this summer. Be sure to take the pledge [[link removed]] and stay tuned.
