I don’t think I need to tell folks like you how important it is that we take back the White House in November, John -- Donald Trump has done more damage in four years than we could have imagined. But make no mistake: Flipping the Senate is just as important.

Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans have used the past four years to give tax breaks to the wealthy, scheme how to take health care away from millions, and confirm scores of unqualified or extreme judicial and executive nominees. If given control of the Senate for another term, I shudder at the thought of what they’ll try to do next.

It’s on each and every one of us to ensure that Democrats nationwide have the resources they need to take on Republicans and win. We’re leading races once thought unwinnable for Democrats this year, and we’ve got some truly incredible candidates ready to serve our country. This expanded map presents a huge opportunity for our party -- but it also means our candidates need more resources than ever before, and earlier. That’s why I’m coming to you today with an important ask:

Right now, Democrats in the Senate are too often being forced to play defense -- we’re fighting hard to protect our values and trying to stop Republicans from passing the most dangerous elements of their agenda. But it's a numbers game, and right now we just don't have the votes. If there is to be meaningful progress on the issues that matter most, we need to take back the Senate this November.

If Joe Biden wins in November, he’ll need a Democratic Senate. We must do everything in our power in these next 73 days to ensure that Democrats up and down the ballot have a fighting chance -- and as a former DNC chair, I know just how critical it is that we provide candidates with the resources they need at this stage of the race.
