The Trump administration has announced plans to weaken federal limits on methane pollution. Join Environment Colorado in telling the EPA that restrictions on methane pollution should be strengthened, not relaxed. |
Dear Anonymous,
The Trump administration has proposed gutting direct federal regulation of methane pollution -- one of the most dangerous greenhouse gases. This comes as the world is already seeing the effects of climate change -- from more extreme weather to devastating wildfires in the Amazon.
President Trump's plan reverses an Obama-era rule that oil and gas companies install technology to inspect for and fix methane leaks from wells, pipelines and storage facilities.1
The good news is that we can still stop this plan. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is accepting public comment on the proposal, and is legally obligated to take public input into consideration.
Add your name: Tell the EPA not to weaken federal oversight of methane leaks.
Methane emissions are among the most destructive greenhouse gases. The primary component of natural gas, methane is a powerful global warming pollutant. Methane is 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide in our atmosphere.2
We can't solve climate change without reducing methane emissions. But the Trump administration's proposal will do the exact opposite. The EPA estimates that the rule change will increase methane emissions by hundreds of thousands of tons every year.3
That's why Environment Colorado and our national network are taking action to stop this plan. We're mobilizing the public and collecting public comments to deliver to the EPA. By adding your name, you'll help us build the support necessary to convince the EPA not to rollback methane regulations.
Submit your public comment today: Support regulations on methane emissions.
Thanks for making it all possible,
Jeanne Bassett
