Hi John, it’s Roy Cooper.
As former Governor of North Carolina and DGA Chair, I know what it takes to win elections – and how to follow through and deliver for the people of my state.
Now, I’m running in one of the most competitive Senate races in the country, and I’m counting on grassroots supporters to help me secure victory and bring change this November.
That’s why I’m asking you, John: Can you split a donation between my campaign and the Democratic Governors Association right now?
In 2016, I ran for Governor for the first time.
I was fighting to unseat Republican Governor Pat McCrory – and nobody had defeated an incumbent Governor in North Carolina for over 150 years.
Throughout the race, multiple election experts were saying it was a toss-up. Poll after poll showed me with a slight lead. The momentum was on our side.
But on Election Night, the race was too close to call.
I ended that night with a razor-thin lead, and Governor McCrory refused to concede. He claimed that there had been voter fraud in our state with no evidence to back it up. He called for a recount, and he and his team went on to spread baseless conspiracy theories and undermine faith in the democratic process.
Despite all the chaos, democracy won, and I became the next Governor of North Carolina.
Here’s the thing, John – my current Senate race is starting to feel eerily similar.
Just like in 2016, the momentum today appears to be on our side. Although Donald Trump carried North Carolina each of the three times he ran, recent polling shows me statistically tied with his handpicked candidate. Even the experts are saying that this is the best chance for Democrats to flip a Republican-held seat in the country. But what worries me is…
We could’ve just as easily lost that race in 2016, and that’s why we simply can’t take our foot off the gas in this one. We can’t look at the polls and the predictions and think for a second that we have this in the bag. We can’t give our Republican opponent or the right-wing super PACs supporting him an inch.
So I’m turning to you, John:
Will you split a donation between my campaign and the DGA today? When I was a Dem gov, I fought tooth and nail to deliver for the people of my state – and I’m running for Senate to do exactly that. Winning this race and electing more Dem govs across the country is essential, but we need your help to do it.
