Donald Trump is using all the powers of his office to undermine our
democracy and steal the election.

And now, just weeks from the start of voting in the most dangerous
election of our lives, a change to Facebook's news feed policies has cut
Common Dreams off from a significant portion of our audience.

This is a disaster for our model of journalism. From the start, Common
Dreams has been an online-only news source. We don't have daily
subscribers, a print edition, or a big advertising budget. We rely on
people finding our journalism on the internet, and for millions of
Americans, Facebook essentially *is* the internet.

Facebook's policy changes have resulted in a sharp and sudden drop in
our online traffic at the worst possible time, as Trump is engineering a
slow-motion coup to undermine our democracy and keep in power.

To get our readership back up where it needs to be in the run up to
November, we're implementing new strategies for getting our news
coverage out to readers, including expanding our presence across all
social media, making sure our stories rank as high as possible in online
news searches, and more.

We need to raise $80,000 by September 1 to hit our emergency
pre-election Summer Fundraising Campaign goal and make sure we have the
resources to fully cover Trump's attempts to steal the election AND
overcome Facebook's suppression of our news stories.
