As we warned you was coming, Donald Trump just held an oil lease sale in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, the first since his previous term.

Despite those previous lease sales demonstrating little to no interest, he learned no lessons, and so tried again this summer. Well, once again, no major oil companies took him up on the offer!

But unfortunately, two smaller investors (one isn’t even an oil company) agreed to pay $3.7 million for only two tracts totaling 72,000 acres — a mere fraction of what was up for sale. While we’re deeply disappointed this is happening at all, this auction was once again a total failure.

This just shows that selling off the Arctic Refuge isn’t the “big boon” Trump thought it would be. Oil companies don’t want this. Nobody wants this except Trump!

“The result should prove that drilling in the Arctic should be taken off the table forever…. Even though this auction was an embarrassment for the Trump administration and anyone arguing that this will raise money for the American public, this is still an injury to the Gwich’in people, who hold the Arctic Refuge sacred, and to the Alaska Native people and wildlife who depend upon the health and integrity of the Refuge for their survival.”
