Housing Justice Forum

2pm, Zoom Call; RSVP for Link

Evictions do nothing but hurt working people, and during a pandemic crisis are evil of the highest order. We need guaranteed high-quality housing for all!

Join Houston DSA for a panel discussion and Q&A about housing justice work in Houston, the challenges organizers face, and how we can move forward together. We will be joined by Zoe Middleton, Houston and SE Texas Co-Director at Texas Housers, and Jay Malone, Political Director at Texas Gulf Coast Area Labor Federation, who have been organizing for housing justice and have seen Mayor Turner’s inaction through their participation in the mayor’s Eviction Prevention Task Force.

Abolition: Call Your Commissioners

7pm, Bohemeo's; DSA members only

Houston Abolitionist Collective are working to bail out people who are currently sitting in Harris County Jail, legally innocent and awaiting trial but unable to afford bail. Harris County Jail was named one of the top 10 COVID hotspots in the US. Top level officials like DA Kim Ogg have failed to eliminate cash bail reform after promising to change the system. They are the reason why innocent people are not walking free.

Sign up to speak at the County Commissioners Court meeting on August 25. Please register to speak by August 25 at 8 am. The hearing begins at 10 AM.
