Friend,
You can’t make this up. American families are struggling to put food on the table and fill their cars at the pump. They’re losing access to healthcare because they can no longer afford rising premiums, and they can barely pay to keep their electricity running each month.
So what’s on the President’s mind? He’s painting the statutes in Washington, DC with gold.
I’m not kidding. President Trump has insisted on spending $5 million [[link removed]] to coat four horses near the Lincoln Memorial in gold.
Of course, $5 million for golden horses is nothing compared with the $1 billion President Trump is spending on a lavish new ballroom, $100 million for his gargantuan arch, and $13 million to paint the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
We don’t have to wonder whether the struggles of working families ever cross his mind. He told [[link removed]] us: “Not even a little bit. … I don’t think about Americans’ financial situations, I don’t think about anybody.”
During the last gilded age, the federal government sided squarely with the rich. Federal resources were used to crush union organizing and protect corporate monopolies rather than regulate exploitative business practices.
In Trump’s gilded age, the federal government has once again turned its back on working Americans. Like the progressives who once fought corrupt robber barons and demanded economic justice, it’s time for each of us to pick a side. Should our government focus on lowering the price of energy, groceries and gas? Or golden horses and opulent ballrooms?
I know where I stand. With your help, Democrats in Congress will have the power after Election Day to reign in Trump’s ridiculous spending. [[link removed]]
