This Diabetes Week

Let's change how we talk about diabetes

Hi John,

It’s the second week of June which can only mean one thing... it’s Diabetes Week!

As always, it’s a week to make some noise, raise awareness and shout about the things that matter to people with diabetes, shining a light on what it’s like to live with day in, day out. And this year, we want to change how we talk about diabetes.

Back in November, we launched our Strike Out Stigma campaign and told you all about it in our email on World Diabetes Day. Since then, our campaign has reached millions of people but there's still more to do.

The reality is that 8 out of 10 people living with diabetes say they’ve faced negative attitudes because of their diabetes. And that's not ok.

So, this Diabetes Week and beyond, we're on a mission to tackle diabetes stigma. Together, we can challenge harmful assumptions, improve understanding, and help ensure everyone living with diabetes feels supported, not judged.

Let's celebrate the things that bring us together and Strike Out Stigma!

Stay safe in the sun

Enjoying the sun is one of the best things about the summer. But if you have diabetes, it can be harder to manage your blood sugar levels in the hot weather. And with temperatures expected to climb, it's important to take a few simple steps to help you enjoy the warmer weather while keeping your diabetes under control.

P.S. We've got a couple of great fundraising opportunities coming up. It's your last chance to join our One Million Step Challenge, so make sure you sign up before 1 July. Or, if you'd rather spend a day strolling with thousands of others and soaking up the sights of the capital, why not join us at our popular Wellness Walk London Bridges on Sunday, 27 September?

Enjoy the start of the summer,

Henry from Diabetes UK
