This is Matt. Malcolm's husband. He doesn't know I'm writing this.​

It's Pride Month, and I wanted to share something I rarely talk about publicly.
The Malcolm you see in front of a camera is the same one I share my mornings
with—on a call by 6:15 AM, rewriting the same line of a speech four times
because he believes a single word can change someone's mind.​

He has spent his career trying to make life better for all Pennsylvanians. And
he has never asked for credit. Just for help.​

In the last year alone, he sponsored and passed marriage equality through the
Pennsylvania House with bipartisan support. He also passed the Fairness Act, a
bill he sponsored to provide protections to all.​

Since becoming the first openly LGBTQ+ person of color in our Commonwealth’s
history in 2018, this is what I have learned. Watching him do this work, I
understand that progress can feel slow and even quiet. A lot of what Malcolm
does day in and day out will never make the news. But it all adds up,
conversation by conversation, rally by rally and bill by bill.​
