John,
This year, our nation is having a much-needed reckoning with race. People across the country are coming to realize what Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities already knew: our fight for racial justice is still ongoing.
At this week's Democratic National Convention, our cries for justice are being heard on the national stage. George Floyd's brothers, Philonise and Rodney Floyd, led a moment of silence, and leaders from all backgrounds are doing their part to create space for voices that are too often left out.
But we need to do more. Victories aren't won with words, but with action. That's why I'm still fighting for justice for Breonna Taylor — while her killers Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove still walk among us. It's why I'm still calling on the Senate to vote on the Justice in Policing Act. It's why I'm encouraging everyone in our district to participate in this year's census, to register to vote, and to speak truth to power at the ballot box.
Black lives are not just a talking point, John. Our lives matter. Will you add your name to join me in continuing our fight for equity and justice?
After the 2016 election, we all braced ourselves for a tumultuous four years. But we need to remember that before President Trump was elected, the status quo still wasn't cutting it for Philadelphians.
Even after we elect Joe and Kamala and win back the White House — our work isn't over. That's why I first ran for office to fight (and keep fighting!) on the side of the collective.
As Philadelphians marched up and down the streets, they often cried, "No justice. No peace." I heard you — loud and clear. I won't stop fighting until there's justice for Breonna Taylor, for George Floyd, for Manny Ellis.
I'm not done demanding lasting change for our communities. Add your name now to let me know you're still calling for justice, too.
Thank you,
Dwight
