Hi John,
Last night, primary elections concluded in Nevada and Maine, two states
where Swing Left has swing districts for this year’s midterms.
Let’s take a look:
Maine
In Maine, Graham Platner won the Democratic nomination for Senate. He now
faces Republican incumbent Susan Collins, where early polling shows him
with a lead. Collins has voted with Donald Trump 95% of the time, helping
to advance policies that have cost people their rights, threatened their
health care, increased the cost of living, and in some cases cost lives.
Democrats need to flip 4 seats to win back the Senate. The winner of this
race could easily determine control of the chamber through 2032, and with
it, the ability of a future Democratic president to govern, of democratic
institutions to recover and thrive, and of a nation to move beyond the
devastating policies of MAGA extremism.
As ruthless pragmatists, we’re committed to giving Democrats the best shot
to win back power from Trump and Republicans. We see our responsibility
clearly: Lead the fight to reject Republican control of the Senate, defeat
Susan Collins, and elect Graham Platner.
Another important race in Maine is still being decided. In the state’s 2nd
Congressional District, one of our Reach Races, it appears none of the
four Democratic candidates received more than 50% of the vote in Tuesday’s
primary. Because Maine uses ranked-choice voting, election officials will
now eliminate the lowest-performing candidates and redistribute ballots
cast for those candidates based on voters’ next choices until one
candidate earns a majority.
Nevada
In Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District, Representative Susie Lee will face
Republican Marty O’Donnell in the general election. It’s one of the most
competitive seats in the country and is one of the rare districts where
voters backed Trump in 2024 but still elected a Democrat to represent them
in the House. Rep. Lee held this seat in 2024 by just 2.74%, and
Republicans are already lining up behind Trump-backed O’Donnell. This is
one of Swing Left’s Must-Hold Races, and support from the Swing Left
community can make all the difference in helping Rep. Lee keep this seat
blue.
And in the Nevada governor’s race, Aaron Ford has won the Democratic
primary and will be campaigning to defeat current Republican Governor Joe
Lombardo. Democrats already hold majorities in both the Nevada State
Assembly and Senate, and winning the governorship here would mean
Democrats can defend voting rights and election rules in a key
presidential swing state, ensuring Republicans aren’t able to manipulate
their way to an unfair advantage in 2028.

Make no mistake: Democrats have momentum, but it’s going to take committed
grassroots volunteers and donor support to win these and Swing Left’s
other target races critical to swinging the balance of power this
November. That’s where this community comes in.
