John,
I had to reach out immediately.
Yesterday, I learned that my Republican opponent released an AI-generated ad using my likeness, my image, and a synthetic version of my voice to make it look and sound like I said things I never said.
I’m angry. I’m disturbed. And I’m not going to let this go unanswered.
This is not a normal political attack. It’s fake. It’s deceptive. And it is exactly the kind of thing that can confuse voters and damage our democracy if we don’t call it out right away.
HELP ME SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT [[link removed]]
Because if a candidate or their allies can’t make their case using real facts and real words, they should not get to hide behind fake voices, fake videos, and manufactured attacks.
I’m going to be very direct here: I need your help today.
When someone uses my face and my voice to spread lies, I can’t just hope people figure out the truth on their own. I have to respond quickly, clearly, and everywhere voters are seeing this fake attack.
Will you click here and make a contribution right now to help me fight back, defend my name, and make sure Vermonters hear the truth directly from me? [[link removed]]
Look, if someone wants to debate my record, let’s debate my record.
If someone wants to talk about policy, let’s talk about policy.
If someone wants to make an argument to voters, they should have the courage to make it honestly.
But using AI to put words in my mouth that I never said? Using my voice and my face without permission to confuse voters and damage my reputation?
It is deceptive, it is dangerous, and it underscores why Vermont has taken steps to outlaw deceptive AI-generated political content.
It’s also exactly why we need stronger federal AI regulation now, not later.
FIGHT BACK AGAINST THESE LIES [[link removed]]
Vermonters deserve to know that when they are watching a campaign ad, the person on screen is actually the person it claims to be. Americans are already exhausted by lies, manipulation, and bad-faith attacks. The last thing our democracy needs is a new wave of fake videos designed to trick voters.
This is bigger than just me. This is about whether truth still matters in our elections, whether voters can trust what they see and hear, and whether we are going to allow bad actors to use AI to manufacture lies, impersonate candidates, and manipulate people at scale.
Because if they can fake my voice today, they can fake anyone’s voice tomorrow.
We cannot let that become normal.
But right now, I’m the one Republicans are targeting — and we have to respond with strength and with urgency here.
If you can, please click here and chip in today to help me fight back, communicate directly with voters, and make clear that AI-generated lies have no place in our democracy. [[link removed]]
I refuse to let anyone fake my voice, fake my words, or fake my record.
And one more thing: if they’re going to make an AI-generated attack ad about me, they could at least spell Vermont correctly.
Thanks for standing with me in this moment,
— Becca
