House Republican fakes phone call to dodge question about "Mike Johnson's secret plan"

This week's profile in cowardice features GOP Rep. Rob Wittman of Virginia, who faked a phone call — quite poorly, we might add — for more than a minute while dodging a reporter's straightforward question about House Speaker Mike Johnson's plans to gut Social Security.

Something tells us the 800,000 or so residents in Virginia's 1st congressional district, which Wittman has represented since 2007, would also like to know exactly what the GOP has in mind for our revered entitlement programs. Anyone interested in giving Rob an actual call can do so here. Ring ring!

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump's US attorney in California humiliated on air

Like Sasquatch, El Chupacabra, and the Loch Ness Monster before it, Donald's mythical voter fraud remains elusive as ever. But not for lack of hunting, of course. Bill Essayli, Trump's top federal prosecutor in Los Angeles, has been desperately searching for any explanation — besides the glaringly obvious one — for how Democrats could possibly have vanquished Spencer Pratt, the MAGA cult leader's chosen mayoral candidate in...the deep-blue Democratic stronghold of LA. Brian Tyler Cohen and Chris Cuomo let loose at Essayli's expense. Roll the tape!

South Carolina pediatrician rises to the occasion to retire Lindsey Graham

Dr. Annie Andrews for Senate Dr. Annie Andrews is a South Carolina pediatrician and mother of three running to finally retire Lindsey Graham from the US Senate, where he has overstayed his welcome for more than two decades. By contrast, Andrews has spent the last 20 years caring for children of all ages where she's learned first hand just how cruel and devastating a healthcare system that puts profits over people can truly be. Andrews is not a lifelong politician. She was drawn into activism and public service following the Parkland school shooting in 2018, joining the gun safety advocacy group Moms Demand Action and eventually running for Congress in 2022, where she held her own against Republican Nancy Mace in a tough midterm cycle for Democrats.

Annie knows special interests and lobbyists run the show these days — now more than ever in the age of Trump — but she isn’t afraid of a fight. She’s fought for safer schools, access to affordable healthcare, and to restore a woman’s right to make healthcare decisions about her own body. She won’t take a dime of corporate PAC money, but she is going to need our help. Will you chip in to help help Annie send Lindsey Graham packing and hold the most lawless administration in US history accountable?

Trump suggests taking half of Iran’s oil as war payback
Anyone else get the feeling this guy doesn't know what he's doing or who he's dealing with? In what realm — other than Donald's dementia-addled brain — would Iran, a nation of 90 million people with the third-largest proven oil reserves on the planet, willingly let the United States just "take" a hundred billion barrels of crude?

Trump’s explosive secret plan to stop migrants setting foot on American soil revealed
America's racist-in-chief is quietly kicking his crusade to rid the country of brown-skinned people into overdrive with a radical "remigration" pilot program in Panama that, if successful, could be scaled far beyond the Central American nation.

The premise is straightforward and severe: preemptively stop South American migrants from ever reaching the United States by equipping the Panamanian government with a DHS-built deportation system that — by design — lacks accountability or pesky due process.

Rekha Sharma Crawford, an immigration attorney and advocate based in Kansas City, said the proposed system could allow other countries to replicate Trump’s immigration crackdown far beyond US borders and conveniently fails to "provide any safety nets for those fleeing persecution." Sharma Crawford explained, "I think this is the master plan for global implementation. Why would they stop hemispherically if they find a workaround for due process?" Sounds about white.

MAGA group runs pathetic AI-generated ad attacking James Talarico

A Trump and Stephen Miller-backed dark money group has begun running an absolutely deranged ad showing Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico wearing Julie Andrews' dress from "The Sound of Music" and playing obviously doctored clips of Talarico's voice to make him say that "he loves trans kids." This marks a new low in political muckraking that makes it clear that we desperately need new legislation to regulate the use of AI in political attacks. This immoral slop is as misleading as it is offensive. The GOP knows they have NOTHING of substance to run on in Texas — due in large part to their candidate, Ken Paxton, being a convicted felon and shameless adulterer who literally gave a sweetheart deal to a serial child rapist — and are going to be quadrupling down on fake culture-war bullshit. It ain't gonna work this time, folks!

Nancy Mace gets smoked in Republican gubernatorial primary after giving up her House seat to run
And another one bites the dust. The tempestuous House Republican committed a mortal sin in the land of MAGA — she stood up for the victims of Jeffrey Epstein and his cabal of well-connected pedophiles against Donald Trump's wishes and, thus, paid the political price. The credibly accused rapist threw his considerable weight behind Lt. Gov. and Nikki Haley dopplegänger Pamela Evette, who will face state Attorney General Alan Wilson in South Carolina's GOP primary runoff for governor on June 23.

Graham Platner cruises to victory in Maine, will face Susan Collins in November

Despite withering personal attacks and a coordinated blitz by Republicans and Democrats alike who are downright terrified of his unlikely rise, insurgent populist Graham Platner coasted to victory in the Democratic primary for Senate in Maine last night, setting up a marquee battle for control of the upper chamber of Congress in November. A combat veteran and oyster farmer, Platner clinched the nomination with just 8% of precincts reporting, according to the Associated Press.

Addressing the controversies that have threatened to upend his campaign, Graham told supporters, "This is the state that raised me and this is the state that saved me. I'm still far from perfect, but everyday I wake up and try to be a little bit better. If you give me the chance, I will be a senator for the people who cannot afford to buy a seat. I will stand up for you and against the billionaires and greedy corporations."

Platner's wife — who has empathically stood by her husband in the wake of revelations of past marital indiscretions — was by his side, relishing in the victory, which made this pathetic barb from Trump sycophant-turned-Fox News supporter Kellyanne Conway all the more pitiful.

Amnesty International accuses Israel’s government of "ethnic cleansing" of Palestinians from the West Bank
In a damning new 149-page report, Amnesty International accused Israel on Wednesday of carrying out a campaign of “ethnic cleansing” of Palestinians from the occupied West Bank with the intention to annex the Palestinian territory.

While much of the displacement is driven by violent settlers who build outposts on Palestinian land, the report asserts that the process could not occur without the support of the government, characterizing it as concerted state policy. UN data says that over 100 West Bank villages have been fully or partially emptied out between January 2023 and April 2026.

Last year, Donald Trump said he would not allow Israel to annex the West Bank, a toothless vow that has done nothing to stem the systematic displacement of Palestinians from their homes.
