I spoke with Mike Hohenbrink with the Calmar Courier this week. We discussed the derecho and coronavirus relief.

Q: What resources will the President’s Major Disaster Declaration open up for Iowans?

Q: How has this natural disaster impacted the fall harvest?

I’ve seen firsthand the damage to farms, businesses, homes and infrastructure across Iowa. Iowa farmers feed and fuel the world. It’s heartbreaking to see acre after acre of crops and grain bins destroyed.

I appreciated the opportunity to meet with Cedar Rapids city officials and folks who have been directly affected by this awful storm. Unfortunately, the national media has been focused on other things and ignored the destruction and loss of many livelihoods here in middle America.

In the midst of this devastation, I’ve also seen neighbor helping neighbor. I know we will get through this together. I support Governor Reynolds’ major disaster declaration request and commend President Trump’s swift approval of this much-needed federal assistance.
