**Reyes Ends Recount in TX-23**



**Castroville –** Republican congressional candidate Raul Reyes today called a halt to his recount effort in the Republican runoff for Texas’ 23rd congressional district.



“Without a sizable shift in the vote margin after a recount in the most populous parts of the district I have decided to end the recount,” said Reyes. “I want to thank our many supporters in South and West Texas for their blood, sweat and tears. We were vastly outspent as we took on the political establishment, but came within a whisker of winning because we built a movement, and not just a campaign.



“I look forward to catching up on time with family, rebuilding my business, and staying involved on the issues that matter to our country,” said Reyes.



The recount included a review of all ballots in Bexar, Medina, Uvalde, Kinney, Val Verde, El Paso and Crockett counties. The vote margin shifted from 45 to 39 votes, but not enough to justify continuing with the counting of ballots.



Reyes raised $342,000 as of July 2, compared to Tony Gonzales’ campaign receipts of $1,217,000. Despite the massive the fundraising disadvantage, and the slew of Establishment endorsements for his opponent, Reyes won the early vote and came within a few dozen votes in the total vote.



Reyes is a retired Air Force colonel who grew up in Del Rio, and served as a career officer. He later worked at an area college, took a civilian appointment as a program manager working with the Air Force, and started a home construction business. He lives in Castroville with his wife and kids.
