Friend, Deb Haaland here — did you catch Morning Joe this morning? I joined to talk about why governors matter now more than ever and why I’m ready to lead New Mexico in this moment:

…Leadership is important in our country. And certainly, governor[s are] the first line of defense against the worst policies coming out of the Trump administration.”

Friend, we are living through a defining moment. Families across New Mexico are struggling with rising costs, and Trump and Republicans are repeatedly attacking Medicaid and SNAP — threatening rural hospitals and making it even harder for people to access care.

I said it on Morning Joe, and I’ll say it again: Trump is making New Mexicans sicker, poorer and hungrier. That’s why this election matters.

We need leadership that knows how to stand up to the Trump administration, fight back against dangerous policies coming out of Washington, and deliver real results for New Mexicans.

As governor, I’ll work to lower costs, strengthen healthcare access, improve our schools, and keep our communities safe. We’re going to give New Mexicans a raise, make it easier for farmers to sell in New Mexico, expand trades programs in schools, strengthen mental health and addiction resources, and open more mobile clinics in rural communities.

I know how the federal government works, I know how to fight back, and I know how to deliver for New Mexicans. But if we’re going to meet this moment, we need the resources to win. The general election is officially underway, and Republicans are already watching to see whether we have the momentum to keep the Governor’s office blue in November.
