We have some news worth celebrating:

Black Maternal Health Caucus, led by Lauren Underwood and Rep. Alma Adams, secured over $363 million for maternal health priorities, including $72 million in Momnibus funding. Since Lauren and Rep. Adams co-founded the Caucus in 2019, they've secured more than $253 million in new federal funding to address our nation's maternal health crisis.

That includes funding for NIH research on the causes of maternal mortality, grants to minority-serving institutions studying health disparities, community-based support for moms in high-risk areas, substance use disorder treatment for pregnant and postpartum individuals, and a 24/7 maternal mental health hotline.

These are real dollars going to real programs that are saving lives.

But here's the hard truth: the United States still has the highest maternal mortality rate of any high-income country. Black women are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications. And the Momnibus — the only comprehensive federal legislation that addresses every driver of this crisis — still hasn't passed.

Lauren isn't stopping until it does.
