Hi John,
French oil giant TotalEnergies is kicking communities in Uganda and
Tanzania off their land to make way for an oil pipeline they never asked
for: the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).
This isn’t the first time we’ve asked for solidarity in this fight, and it
probably won’t be the last. But today we’re asking you to stand with us
again.
Community organizers resisting the pipeline have called on our movement to
stand with them. They recently led the global Kick Polluters Out week of
action in a coordinated push to make banks and investors walk away from
this pipe dream for good.^1

EACOP, John?
By showing international resistance to this pipeline, we show potential
investors that their actions have consequences far beyond East Africa.

For years, communities in East Africa, and the international StopEACOP
coalition, have resisted this pipeline. Thanks to their work, over 70
banks and insurers have already refused to fund EACOP.^2
But BlackRock, Vanguard, Amundi, Norges Bank Investment Management and
other investors are still in, in spite of the damning facts.
Twenty-nine African currencies have weakened due to fossil fuel
dependency.^3 In Kenya, oil price shocks triggered violent protests.^4 In
Tanzania, austerity measures followed.^5 Fossil fuels do not bring
prosperity; they only deepen the crisis.

We've already built something powerful. At the end of May, communities and
campaigners took action against EACOP in Tanzania, Uganda, France, South
Africa and the UK. The StopEACOP Coalition spans the globe and tens of
countries. We've pushed major banks out. We’ve delayed this pipeline for
years already.

In solidarity,
Abiud for the StopEACOP Coalition & Ellie from 350.org
