This morning, the House Judiciary Committee voted to advance HB 2244 , Rep. Tim Briggs's bill to require gun owners to store their firearms securely.
You may remember that Rep. Briggs promised to push this bill forward when he spoke at End Gun Violence Advocacy Day last Tuesday in Harrisburg. He kept his promise.
This is the closest Pennsylvania has been to passing secure storage legislation in years. Now, we need to turn this momentum into a vote on the House floor.
The fastest way to secure a vote is to get HB 2244 an overwhelming number of co-sponsors. As of now, the secure storage bill has 23 co-sponsors, but your representative isn’t one of them.

Last month, a 14-year-old girl in Upper Darby was killed when she and her middle school classmates found a firearm that had been left unsecured in her home. We can’t undo her death, but we can make sure her story changes something.
Responsible gun owners already practice secure storage, but a recent study revealed that nearly 1 in 5 gun-owning parents store firearms loaded and accessible to kids . Right now, Pennsylvania is one of the only states in the region without a law requiring guns to be securely stored. It’s past time to catch up.
