Sacramento DSA Members,
After two years, Real Rent Control is finally on the ballot, as Measure C. Mayor Steinberg and the City Council did everything they could to keep it off the ballot, but an Appellate Court judge ruled last week that the initiative should go before the voters on the November ballot.
Winning this is critical, as Sacramento still has some of the fastest increasing rents in the country. The COVID pandemic, though, has made the situation very much worse for tenants. Many tenants have lost income, and only some were eligible for the enhanced unemployment benefit. Those benefits have now run out, just as the eviction moratoriums are ending.
We have a very tight time frame. Ballots will be going out to voters soon, and many Sacramentans return their ballots by mail before election day. The pandemic will limit our ability to do in-person outreach, so we will need to use all of our social media, texting and telephone skills to reach voters before the election. The corporate landlords are already lining up huge sums to try to defeat us, but with our collective power we can win.
Can we count on your active support?
Join us for a Rent Control Zoom Rally this Saturday, August 22, at 11:00 to learn how you can plug in!

We have been working on this for a long time, and a victory would provide vital security to keep our renters in their homes.
